Osprey arrive in Virginia in the early spring to establish nests, hatch babies in late spring, then get them flying and flying during the summer months. In the fall they migrate south to Florida, much like humans do.
I think they are some of the most efficient, graceful, and precise birds of prey out there. They frequent an area of the James River in Newport News known as the Lions Bridge. Look for them hunting high above the spillway going after fish at the tidal changes.
